Gospel Music Loses a Legend
Atlanta, GA, May 19 2009—The Gospel music world learned of the passing of one of its greats, Eva Mae LeFevre Monday morning, May 18, 2009 at the age of 91. Eva Mae LeFevre had a spectacular career spanning eight decades. A true American success story, she did what she loved, and loved what she did.
The LeFevre Quartet paid tribute to the beloved matriarch on what may have been her last video recording. In a statement issued today, nephew Mike LeFevre recalled her appearance on the yet to be released project that was recorded only weeks before his aunt's 90th birthday.
"She was gracious, kind, and still a masterful MC. As she shared her faith and music that night, she captivated that crowd with her humor and trademark laugh. She always had this amazing ability to transport an audience from laughter to tears and back again in a split second. There is no one who influenced me more than my aunt Eva Mae. As a child, I remember going to see the LeFevres sing, going on their bus and admiring everything they did. The music industry has lost a lady and a legend".
That night, the irrepressible Eva Mae LeFevre reminisced about her family and work. As she talked about the husband and children who preceded her in death, there was a distant look of longing in her eye. And though her body had grown slower than her indefatigable spirit, she now has left that tired body behind to be reunited with loved ones, fully alive again with the One she sang about.
Friends, family and fans of Eva Mae LeFevre owe a dept of gratitude to Mark Fuller for his dedication, accompanying her, and extending her ability to make personal appearances into the twenty-first century.
